The Executive MBA<\/strong> of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA)<\/strong>, as part of its Business Events<\/strong> actions, is organizing an event titled \u201cThe Crypto Market Ecosystem \u2013 Paradise Lost or the Future of Finance?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event will take place online<\/strong> on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at 7:00 PM<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The emergence of cryptocurrencies, heralded by the advent of Bitcoin in 2009<\/strong>, promised a revolutionary shift in the global financial landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cryptocurrencies were envisioned as decentralized<\/strong>, transparent<\/strong>, and efficient alternatives<\/strong> to traditional currencies and banking systems. The rise of the crypto economy garnered widespread attention, attracting enthusiastic supporters and skeptics alike.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rapid growth of the crypto economy led one in five adults in the US and one in ten in Europe to speculate on cryptocurrencies, achieving a peak market capitalization of \u20ac2.5 trillion<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, as time passed, it became evident that while cryptocurrencies introduced innovative ideas<\/strong> and opportunities<\/strong>, they failed to deliver on some of their grand promises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The decline in cryptocurrency prices<\/strong> since November 2021 has resulted in a loss of approximately \u20ac2 trillion<\/strong> in crypto assets\u2019 value within less than a year, leaving millions of investors unprepared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Alongside the rollercoaster of capitalizations, the ecosystem continued to evolve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What began as a payment system<\/strong> gradually transformed into a comprehensive ecosystem offering a range of financial tools<\/strong> and services<\/strong>, such as fundraising instruments, decentralized exchanges<\/strong>, and decentralized lending platforms<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, the landscape looks very different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is widespread acknowledgment of the immense potential of the blockchain<\/strong> infrastructure underpinning the crypto economy. Meanwhile, Europe has already implemented two regulatory frameworks<\/strong> that set the rules for the crypto world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So, what is the crypto economy<\/strong>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is it a paradise lost or the future of finance?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
